WORKS OF MAGTYMGULY IN POLISH: RESEARCH BY PROFESSOR NIKOLAI VASKIV ON THE PAGES OF THE STATE NEWSPAPER “TÜRKMENISTAN”

The Embassy of Turkmenistan in Ukraine was given copies of the State newspaper "Türkmenistan", established by the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan. In the issue of the state publication dated September 14, 2024, No. 234, which covers the main events of the country, an article was published dedicated to the translations, research and popularization of the creative heritage of the outstanding Turkmen poet and thinker Magtymguly Fragi in the countries of Europe, Asia and other parts of the world. The author of the article is Professor, Doctor of Philology, Senior Researcher at the Research Institute of Ukrainian Studies of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv Nikolay Vaskiv.

In the study of N. Vaskiv is analyzed a book by the famous Polish writer Jan Brzechwa (1898-1966). As the author of the article points out, this is the first and so far only book of translations of Magtymguly into Polish, published in 1954. The book consists of a short preface, retransmissions of twelve poems by Magtymguly and notes by the author. The short preface introduces Polish readers to the name of the classic Turkmen poet, his innovation, the main motives of his work, and the peculiarities of his poetics. Regarding the translations themselves, Jan Brzechwa tries to reproduce the genre features of goshgy and ghazals very accurately, to preserve the strophic pattern and rhyme of Magtymguly's poems. N. Vaskiv notes that Brzechwa's merit lies not only in the very fact of popularizing Magtymguly and his works. The translator turned out to be a very attentive, meticulous master who managed to reproduce quite fully the exoticism of eastern, Turkmen, poetry and the perfection of Fragi's versification.
