President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov attended the opening ceremony of the new international airport in Balkanabat, located in the western part of the country, in the Balkan velayat.

Located 20 kilometers northwest of the provincial capital and just 4 kilometers from the famous Mollagara resort, the new airport will significantly improve access to sanatorium and resort services, as well as stimulate tourism development in the region.

The opening of the new airport symbolizes the revival of the Amul-Caspian segment of the ancient Silk Road, now known as the East-West transport corridor, linking the cities of Turkmenabat, Ashgabat, Balkanabat, and Turkmenbashi.

The airport is strategically located near the Ashgabat-Turkmenbashi highway and railway. In the future, a railway station is planned to be built in the nearby town of Jebel.

With its efficient transport connections, the new Balkanabat International Airport will contribute to the further development of Turkmenistan’s logistics and transport infrastructure, as well as expand access to international markets. Transit passengers will benefit from reduced travel times. The airport's cargo terminal is designed to handle up to 200 tons of cargo per day.
