TURKMENISTAN AND FRANCE DISCUSSED PROSPECTS FOR STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP

On May 5, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov paid an official visit to the French Republic.

As part of the busy program of the visit, meetings were held with the President of France Emmanuel Macron, the head of the Bouygues company Martin Bouygues, and participation in the Turkmen-French economic forum.

Negotiations between Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Emmanuel Macron took place in the Elysee Palace, during which they discussed key areas of bilateral cooperation.

Particular attention was paid to issues of trade and economic cooperation, where the interlocutors noted the presence of broad opportunities for bringing relations to a qualitatively new level. The oil and gas complex, satellite communication technologies, transport, construction, water resources, chemical and pharmaceutical industries, and agriculture were named as promising areas.

During the business meeting in the format of a dinner, the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty conveyed greetings from the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov to Emmanuel Macron and expressed gratitude to France for supporting the neutrality and international initiatives of Turkmenistan. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov invited France to take part in the international forum on December 12 in Ashgabat, dedicated to the International Year of Peace and Trust and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's neutrality.

The key outcome of the visit was the signing of nine bilateral documents covering a wide range of cooperation areas: from energy and digital technologies to education and archeology. Particular attention was paid to attracting French investment in the economy of Turkmenistan and promoting joint projects in the field of sustainable development.
