Today, our country celebrates a major national holiday – the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov took part in the ceremony of laying flowers at the monuments of the Halk Hakydasy memorial complex.

In his address to compatriots on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that war and labor veterans make a great contribution to the development of the Fatherland, educating young people in the spirit of patriotism and courage, strengthening the unity and cohesion of the people.

As the head of state emphasized: "In Turkmenistan, which is becoming one of the prosperous countries in the world, we have great respect for veterans who showed an unconditional example of love and loyalty to the Fatherland in 1941-1945, for mothers who survived the harsh days of the war, for all who courageously fought for a great goal. The older generation is our pride, it instills in us love for the Motherland, respect for human dignity, parents, and serves as an example to follow."

For courage and bravery shown on the battlefield, over a hundred of our compatriots were awarded the high title of Hero. Thousands of Turkmen citizens were awarded military orders and medals. Among them is Berdimuhamed Annayev, the great-grandfather of the head of state Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the grandfather of the National Leader of the Turkmen people.

It is noteworthy that the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory is celebrated in a year marked for our country by another anniversary date – the 30th anniversary of neutrality.
