“Health Week” for Turkmen Youth in Ukraine
April 7 is celebrated annually as World Health Day, established by the World Health Organization to draw the attention of the international community to health issues, improve quality of life, and highlight the importance of disease prevention.
On the occasion of International Day of Health, on April 5, 2026 the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Ukraine continued to hold a series of health and sports events as part of the "Health Week" aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle and comprehensively supporting the development of Turkmen youth, students, and representatives of the diaspora in Ukraine.
The program opened with a morning run along one of the capital’s popular tourist routes, starting at the Glass Bridge—a modern architectural landmark connecting historic sites and renowned for its panoramic views. The run continued along Artists’ Alley, a picturesque pedestrian area stretching from the bridge toward the Arch of Freedom of the Ukrainian People.
The new route highlighted young people’s commitment to an active lifestyle, respect for cultural heritage, and integration into the modern urban environment.
Participants demonstrated a high level of endurance and, after the run, continued their friendly competitions at the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Ukraine, taking part in weightlifting and arm wrestling. During these activities, participants showcased strength, endurance, and perseverance.
The youth also took part in intellectual competitions such as chess and checkers, demonstrating strategic thinking, perseverance, and focus, and emphasizing the importance of intellectual development alongside physical activity.
Although winners were determined in individual disciplines, all competitions were friendly in nature, and the main outcome of the events was the strengthening of team spirit and the desire for self-improvement.
Participants noted that the values embodied in this year’s motto—“Independent, Permanently Neutral Turkmenistan – the Homeland of Purposeful Winged Horses”—namely determination, forward movement, and the pursuit of high achievement, were reflected in both sports and intellectual competitions, uniting young people around common goals.
Diplomats emphasized that, in cooperation with the WHO and the UN, Turkmenistan actively promotes health diplomacy at the regional and global levels. The country has carried out consistent efforts for many years to prevent diseases and address risk factors. Turkmenistan holds a leading position in the WHO European Region in tobacco control and smoking prevention, and youth anti-tobacco initiatives are among the most effective strategies.
In turn, the young participants expressed gratitude to Turkmenistan’s leadership for its commitment to public health, its continuous support for youth, the creation of favorable conditions for their development, and comprehensive support for compatriots abroad. They also emphasized the importance of the Embassy’s initiatives in strengthening friendly ties, preserving national identity, and promoting a positive image of Turkmen youth abroad.
