AUTHOR'S PRESENTATION OF BOOKS ABOUT THE OUTSTANDING POET MAGTYMGULY FRAGI IN THE LIBRARY OF THE SAME NAME IN KYIV

On April 3, 2024 a presentation of books by Mykola Vaskiv, professor of the Kyiv Metropolitan University named after Boris Grinchenko, dedicated to the creative heritage and extraordinary personality of the Turkmen poet and thinker Magtymguly Fragi, took place in the library named after Magtymguly in Kyiv.

The next cultural and educational event is taking place in the Kyiv library, named after the poet, in the year of celebrating the 300th anniversary of the outstanding master of poetic word and philosophical thought Magtymguly.

The meeting with the author of the publications was attended by students of grades 8-10 of Secondary School No. 235 named after V. Chornovola, library staff, diplomatic staff of the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Ukraine and Turkmen youth.

Mykola Vaskiv has been studying and popularizing in Ukraine and abroad the work of the brilliant Turkmen poet Magtymguly Fragi for many years, as well as Turkmen literature, culture, and Turkmen-Ukrainian cultural relations. The author's articles are published in scientific journals and collections of Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Poland, Turkey, and Azerbaijan.

For the first time within the library, the author presented two unique publications published in Ukraine in 2019: the monograph “Magtymguly Pyragy (Magtymguly Fragi): a literary portrait” and a complete collection of translations of poems into Ukrainian “Magtymguly Pyragy. Look at everything, think about everything...”.

The author noted that in the year of celebrating the 300th anniversary of the outstanding poet, wise philosopher Magtymguly, and these books are increasingly in demand by readers. And in general, the attention of literature and poetry admirers around the world is focused in the anniversary year on the Turkmen genius and his poetry, filled with sincere love for the people, the kindest instructions, and deep patriotic and lyrical motives. It is natural that the 300th anniversary of Magtymguly Fragi was included in the List of significant dates for joint celebration with UNESCO in 2024–2025, and TURKSOY proclaimed 2024 “The Year of the great poet and thinker of the Turkic world - Magtymguly Fragi.”

The monograph about the life and work of the poet “Magtymguly Pyragy (Magtymguly Fragi): a literary portrait” occupies a special place among the author’s scientific works. It reveals the facts of the poet's biography and the legends associated with him, talks about the richness and originality of the images and motives of the lyrics, the versification perfection of the works, the traditions and innovation of his creative heritage. The literary portrait systematically characterizes the publications of translations of Magtymguly’s poetry in Ukraine, works of Ukrainian writers dedicated to the figure of the outstanding Turkmen poet, as well as studies of creativity in the works of Ukrainian researchers.

The second edition is a complete collection of translations of poems into Ukrainian under the poetic title “Look at everything, think about everything...”. Mykola Vaskiv organized Magtymguly’s poems translated by famous Ukrainian poets, writers and translators of the 19th century and our contemporaries, and in the preface to this publication spoke about their merits in popularizing the works of Magtymguly in Ukraine. Once again, the author in the preface talks about the place and role of Magtymguly at the national and world level, from which the golden period of Turkmen literature began. The author analyzes the poet's perfect style, his form and national popularity, draws analogies with the works and merits of the Ukrainian geniuses Taras Shevchenko and Grygoriy Skovoroda.

The meeting participants, captivated by the author’s speech, were interested in facts from the history of writing books about the outstanding Turkmen poet. The author shared his own scientific experience, stories from travels around the world, where he drew inspiration and knowledge, in order to further comprehensively reveal the depth of the unique heritage of the outstanding poet Magtymguly.

Traditionally, Magtymguly’s poems were read in Turkmen and Ukrainian languages.
