PEACE STRATEGY, AI CODE, SECURITY COUNCIL CANDIDACY — TURKMENISTAN’S POSITIONS AT THE 81ST SESSION OF THE UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan has unveiled the country’s priority positions for the upcoming 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. The foreign ministry presented a comprehensive list of practical initiatives that Ashgabat intends to put forward at the world’s principal international forum.
Turkmenistan’s list of proposals and priorities includes the following areas:
Strategy for Universal Peace — holding interstate consultations under the auspices of the UN to develop a common peacebuilding concept based on the principles of peace, security and preventive diplomacy.
Decade of Dialogue and Preventive Diplomacy — an initiative to declare 2027–2037, under the auspices of the UN, a decade for strengthening trust and preventing conflicts.
Group of Friends of Multilateralism — establishing a new group within the UN in support of the sovereign equality of states.
Academic Center for Peace and Neutrality — opening a center at the Department of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan as part of the implementation of the University of Peace and Neutrality project.
International Code on Artificial Intelligence — developing, under the auspices of the UN, a set of rules for the peaceful use of AI in diplomacy and international relations, as well as holding an expert dialogue in Ashgabat on digital trust and the responsible use of AI.
Resolution on Preventive Diplomacy — submitting to the UN General Assembly another draft document on the role of the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), headquartered in Ashgabat.
Global Atlas of Sustainable Transport Connectivity — continuing the development of a comprehensive analytical and information tool as part of the implementation of the UN Decade of Sustainable Transport for 2026–2035.
Center for Logistics and Customs Cooperation — establishing an International Center in Turkmenistan under the auspices of the UN to facilitate sustainable trade.
Transregional Transport Corridor — establishing, under UN auspices, a new route connecting South and Central Asia with Europe via the Caspian Sea.
Ashgabat Climate Dialogue — establishing a permanent multilateral platform for climate initiatives and the protection of regions affected by drought and water scarcity.
Energy Forum — holding consultations on organizing a high-level meeting entitled “Sustainable Energy for All.”
Year of International Law — a proposal to hold an International Forum in Turkmenistan, as part of preparations for the Year of International Law (2028), dedicated to the interrelationship between international law, disarmament, neutrality, preventive diplomacy and sustainable development.
UN Security Council Elections — carrying out preparatory work to nominate Turkmenistan as a candidate for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2031–2032 term (alongside its work in ECOSOC for 2026–2028).
Humanitarian Track — further developing the Central Asian Women’s Dialogue and the Central Asian Youth Dialogue within the framework of the UN’s global agendas.
