MESSAGE FOR MEDIA
On June 23, 2020, a message containing distorted information on measures to counteract coronavirus infection in Turkmenistan was posted on the official website of the US Embassy in Turkmenistan. In particular, it is alleged that citizens with symptoms of diseases caused by a new type of infection are tested and can be sent to compulsory quarantine without control over amenities and for an indefinite period of time.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan notes the insolvency and bias of this kind of informational "fake". In this regard, Ministry officials have repeatedly notified the US Ambassador to Turkmenistan of the inadmissibility of disseminating biased and unconfirmed information.
The Turkmen side, based on the principles of openness of international cooperation in combating the coronavirus pandemic, regularly holds thematic briefings for the diplomatic corps and foreign journalists, during which they provide the most comprehensive information on measures currently being taken by Turkmenistan to prevent infectious diseases.
Unfortunately, the American side, despite invitations, does not take part in such meetings.
Based on the foregoing, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan declares the counterproductive nature of the actions of the American diplomatic mission in Ashgabat.
