TELEPHONE CONVERSATION BETWEEN THE PRESIDENTS OF TURKMENISTAN AND AFGHANISTAN

On July 31, 2020, a telephone conversation took place between President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani.
Warmly welcoming each other, the heads of friendly states exchanged congratulations on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, expressing confidence that this wonderful holiday, symbolizing the triumph of high spiritual values - humanism, benevolence and generosity, will contribute to strengthening unity and solidarity in the entire Muslim community.

During the telephone conversation, a number of topical issues of the regional and global agenda were discussed. In particular, the topic of the coronavirus pandemic was touched upon, which, covering a huge geographical area, negatively affects the life of many states and peoples.

Stressing that Turkmenistan fully supports the activities of the world community to combat COVID-19, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed his conviction of the need for coordinated measures at the international level to successfully counter this threat faced by humanity.

The head of the Turkmen state highlighted the role of the Lapis Lazuli transit and transport corridor, created within the framework of the Agreement signed between Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey.

In this regard, the agreements reached during the recent trilateral meeting of the Presidents of Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Afghanistan became an important step for the activation of this transport corridor and cooperation on a systematic basis.

In addition, the importance of such large-scale projects in the field of energy, transport and communications as the construction of the TAPI gas pipeline, as well as electric and fiber-optic lines along the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan route, the implementation of which will further strengthen interstate relations, was emphasized.

At the end of the conversation, Presidents Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Mohammad Ashraf Ghani wished each other health and success in all noble deeds, as well as prosperity to the Turkmen and Afghan peoples.
