A SCULPTURE DEDICATED TO THE UKRAINIAN PHILOSOPHER AND POET HRYHORII SKOVORODA WAS INSTALLED IN ASHGABAT

On the territory of the cultural and park complex “Magtymguly Pyragy”, which was inaugurated on May 17, 2024 in the Turkmen capital along with the monument to the outstanding Turkmen poet and thinker Magtymguly, there is an alley of famous classical poets and thinkers from different countries. The monuments erected in their honor personify the friendship, brotherhood and good neighborliness of peoples, which our great poet called for in his immortal works.

Among the numerous sculptures, there is a monument to the outstanding Ukrainian philosopher and poet of the 18th century Hryhorii Skovoroda, who lived and worked in the same era as Magtymguly. Ukrainian researchers draw parallels between the two philosophers and find similarities in the ideas and deep meanings inherent in their work. Both poets were innovators in the field of versification. Each, relying on the traditions of national cultures, played a major role in the formation and development of their peoples.

This gesture clearly demonstrates the respect of the Ukrainian heritage by the Turkmen people, becoming another place symbolizing the friendship of the two peoples. Let us remember that many years ago a monument to Taras Shevchenko was erected in Ashgabat, and a nearby street was named in his honor.
