THE TURKMEN DELEGATION IN QATAR TOOK PART IN THE MEETING OF SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVES FOR AFGHANISTAN

On May 1-2, 2023, a meeting of Special Representatives for Afghanistan was held in Doha, Qatar under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General. The meeting was also attended by UN Secretary General António Guterres. The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan V.Hajiev represented the Turkmen side at the meeting.

During the meeting, the participants exchanged views on the current military-political, economic and humanitarian situation in Afghanistan.

The head of the Turkmen delegation noted the consistent activities of Turkmenistan to provide assistance to the Afghan people, based on the principles of good neighborliness and humanism, which was initiated by the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan and continues today by the President of Turkmenistan.

It was also emphasized that the Turkmen side, on the basis of the policy of neutrality of Turkmenistan, implements major projects aimed at developing the economy of the neighboring country - TAPI, TAP, and the railway.

The meeting participants expressed a common opinion on the need to hold regular meetings under the auspices of the UN, which will contribute to the normalization of the situation in Afghanistan.

On May 2 this year, in frames of the participation in the meeting of special representatives for Afghanistan, the delegation of Turkmenistan held talks with the UN Assistant Secretary-General for the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific Region Khaled Khiari.

During the meeting, an exchange of views took place on the situation in Afghanistan. It was emphasized that the further continuation by Turkmenistan of trade and economic partnership with the neighboring country, the implementation of major economic projects, as well as the provision of humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people, is of great importance in the development of the Afghan economy.

K.Khiari, in turn, emphasized the purposeful activities of Turkmenistan to ensure peace and security, as well as sustainable development in the region.
