A CONFERENCE DEDICATED TO THE DIVERSIFICATION OF TRANSPORT AND TRANSIT COOPERATION WAS ORGANIZED IN TURKMENISTAN

On July 18, 2022, a two-day international conference "International transport and transit corridors: interconnection and development" dedicated to the diversification of transport and transit cooperation in the Eurasian space began its work in Ashgabat.

The forum, organized by the Transport and Communications Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan jointly with the ES "Turkmen Forum", was attended by representatives of ministries and departments, representatives of diplomatic missions, international organizations and financial institutions accredited in Turkmenistan, experts, investors, as well as domestic and foreign mass media.

Among the delegates: representatives of international transport and forwarding companies, logistics organizations, as well as representatives of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), the International Road Transport Union (IRU), the USAID Central Asia Program and others.

Director General of the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers M. Chakyev read out a greeting Address from President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to the participants of the International Conference.

The program of the conference, organized both in a traditional format and online, included a plenary session "Post-pandemic recovery of the transport and logistics sector: new challenges and opportunities" and three working sessions - "Digitalization of the transport and communications complex. A look into the future”, “Environmental aspects of sustainable transport. The role of public-private partnership in the development of green infrastructure”, “The role of science and education in the development of the transport and communication complex”.

As part of the dialogue, its participants raised such issues as the state of the world market of transport services, the geography and dynamics of cargo flows, the possibility of increasing the efficiency and competitiveness of all modes of transport, the role of road and air transport in improving the efficiency of the transport and transit potential of Turkmenistan in the conditions of Eurasian integration.

As the speakers emphasized, the desire of foreign partners to increase cooperation in the transport sector is primarily due to the scale of the transformations implemented in the domestic transport and transit system, as well as the high level of interaction with leading business circles.

The forum also hosted the third meeting of the Working Committee of the "Agreement on the establishment of an international transport and transit corridor between the Governments of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the State of Qatar, the Sultanate of Oman, Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan" (Ashgabat Agreement) and the first working meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) on transport corridors Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran and Tajikistan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Turkey.

On July 19, the International Conference will continue its work in the format of a specialized session, the agenda of which will include issues related to such important areas as the role of science and education in the development of the transport and communication complex, and building up international cooperation in these areas.

It also provides for an awards ceremony and the signing of documents designed to help strengthen productive cooperation, develop its effective forms, activate positive regional and global processes in the name of general well-being and progressive development.
